Scott Pope
2019 Sports Hall of Fame Inductee
Scott Pope has lived a life deeply rooted in his community and dedicated to service, sports, and faith. A lifelong resident of Mount Holly, Pope's journey began on a mill hill, where his love for sports first blossomed. He played baseball and football in high school, earning recognition for his athleticism before shifting his focus to coaching at just 19. Over the years, Pope has coached a wide variety of youth sports, including baseball, football, basketball, and soccer, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young athletes.
Beyond coaching, Pope has been instrumental in local projects like the 1995 Field of Dreams initiative, which revitalized the field behind Rankin Elementary School. His community involvement extended to serving as a deacon and chairman at Grace Baptist Church, and he’s participated in multiple mission trips, including to Haiti, New Jersey, and Alaska. He has been recognized as Mount Holly Man of the Year in 1996 and serves as the acting president of the Mount Holly Sports Hall of Fame.
Despite facing health challenges, including open-heart surgery and cancer, Pope continues to serve his community. His proudest accomplishments, however, remain his faith, his marriage to Sheila, and his two sons, Jeremy and Justin. Through it all, Pope remains a dedicated coach, mentor, and family man, always ready to step up for others - whether on the field or in life.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
